Abe

Hi family,friends,viewers,
It's a very beautiful,windy day,
We are very thankful to God for every milestone Abe has accomplish so far.
Abe is progressing everyday gaining more resistance in both his feet and arms. He can also identify some visitors by name. Yesterday Hertha and some family members took Abe to Loma Luz hospital to have his stomach tube remove, but the doctor said he wasn't familiar with that kind of tube that they inserted in his stomach in Guatemala, so he didn't dare remove it.
Today Hertha and some family members are taking Abe to the hospital to see a doctor,Abe has a bladder infection cause by the catheter he has inserted in him to help him urinate.Hopefully the right antibiotics will be given to him to help him with his infection.
Please continue to pray for strength and healing for Abe and his family. Thank you everyone for your continuous support. We appreciate it!

Sunday with Abe

Hi everyone,
Today was a beautiful day.
Otto and Milton, gave Abe his walking therapy, holding him on each side.
Abe still has his feeding tube connected , but it's being use for applying his medication.
He is affectionate towards his family.A private nurse has been hired to help with therapy.
This afternoon Otto and Milton took him for a drive at Abe's mom house, he was very alert when he saw his company trucks there.
they also took him to his church where he saw his daughters decorating for a christmas program; he was so exited that he was trying to play his guitar with his left hand.
Abe also held the microphone and murmured for a while.some family and friends were there at his residence visiting and offering their support.

Abe

Hi family, friends, viewers,
Today is two weeks since my family and I left Belize to be here in Guatemala with Abe and Hertha. We have seen many improvements with Abe through out our time being here. God is Good!
Yesterday a nurse told Otto that she ask Abe como est as Abe bien? And Abe replied soy bien,! This morning Otto visited him and told him in a loud voice Good morning Abe,and he replied back Good morning.
At 200pm I visited Abe, Hertha was trying to feed him. He didn't seem hungry.  The nurses came in to do his lung and back therapy. He seem uneasy when they had his back in strenous position. So I ask him Abe is it uncomfortable for you? Is your head hurting? He replied calmly. ,Yes. It seems when he makes an effort to speak the words don't come out, only when he is calm then the words come out.
Abe can drink his tea, oats, apple juice with a cup by himself using his left hand only.

Miracles are taking place here at Centro Medico!

This afternoon Otto and Hertha went to visit Abe.He is having resistance on his right side more. Abe also follows verbal command very good. He can wipe his mouth with a napkin, put his hand on his mouth, put his hand on his fore head. Otto and the nurses were doing therapy to teach Abe how to sit up. He seem to really like it. At the end of the session, he can now pull himself from a partial sitting position into a sitting position.
Otto called 'Abe" !and he responded (huh) .Otto called him again ,and he immediately responded again(huh). Otto told him we're going to town to drink  a hot cup of coffee soon, and he replied in a clear voice (yes) in German. Just then a phone call came in from Milton,Abe took the phone from Otto and put it by his ears to listen to the conversation, after a few minutes into the conversation Abe said the longest sentence ever yoo eck weet in German. I hope I got that spelling correct. In English it means (yes I know)  we are rejoicing for the healing that is taking place. Mark 11:22:24

Sunday morning with Abe

We visited Abe this Morning. He was very relaxed. He lifted his right leg this morning, which is amazing he's never done that before.Hertha fed him breakfast his appetite was good, actually better than yesterday.
Hertha and I had praise and worship music very loud in Abe's room today, he seem to be enjoying it very much. We also read some encouraging bible verses to him.
Dr Matteo said that the nutritionist is working on a list of healthy foods to give to Hertha once back home She can feed it to him through his gastrostomy(feeding tube). I had ask Dr Matteo what's the real reason Abe is still in the ICU, he said because they the doctors made a decision that's where it had suited best for Abe,and that it was much cheaper, also he had a general routine carried out by different nurses everyday.
The nurses are exercising Abe's urinary muscles.
Please pray that his urinary system will work properly.
Thank you for your support everyone. God Bless you!

Abe's update

Hello everyone,
Another beautiful day has gone by in Guatemala.
Abe was very content today.Hertha fed him lunch. He is still eating a little. We came back around 4:00pm from visiting,Hertha try to feed him some raspberry ice cream for vaspa which he enjoyed very much.
Abe is still in the ICU because of the feeding tube in his stomach. It require a special nurse for that I'm told.
From what Doctor Matteo have seen in patients with severe head trauma.,He said Abe  has progress really well in 1month, normally some patients take up to a year. Doctor also mention for the first 6months to 1year Abe should not bend his back,or lift up any heavy things.when he want to pick up something from the floor he can only go in a squatting position.
Please pray for Abe to regain a good appetite and for restoration. We submit no healing is too hard for our heavenly father.

We visited Abe this morning,Hertha was feeding him his breakfast.Abe is starting to eat a little. His feeding bag with his suppliments are still connected.Abe sure don't like his mouth messy. He immediately try to grab a napkin or even the sheet from the bed to clean his mouth using his left hand only,His right side is getting more  strenght and flexibility.Abe is starting to hold things thightly in his right hand. sister Ana usually rub his toes for him.he's always tick off at that.
Abe is getting a lot of therapy. Some are advance in order for his muscle tone not to shrink.
Everything is looking good with Abe at the moment. He is on the road to a great recovery. I know all his family, and friends are anxiously awaiting his return. Soon, very soon! Thank you for your prayers!

12/12/12

Good morning family,friends,supporters,
Yesterday we had an amazing family time with Abe in the garden. It's the first time my daughter got to see her uncle Abe since we've been here in Guatemala. They didn't allowed her in the ICU because of her age,but in the garden was an exception yesterday. Thank you Jacob for declaring that she will see her uncle here before we leave.
Abe had his eyes wide open when they were bringing him to the garden, and after a while he dose off in a sleep. I believe it was so refreshing and rejuvinating for him to see and feel nature.
Yesterday Hertha was coaxing him to wake up in the garden, all of a sudden Sachi snorted like a pig in the midst of telling him to wake up,and his eyes automatically flew open. I hope he didn't think he was in a pig barn. Was very humorous.

This morning Hertha and I visited him for a while. He was asleep. Today we are awaiting the result of the doctor to see if the tube in Abe's throat will be remove. We had ask the nurses to take him out in the garden again.

Abe was able to go visit the garden today .They took him out in his hospital chair, they have him in this chair for the day in the ICU, as well. He enjoyed it a lot. Centro Medico, the hospital Abe is in, has a beautiful garden for the patients and their families to enjoy. It has a variety of very pretty flowers and plants. It is therapy in its own way to just be in there.

Exciting news

We are very happy to have visitors from back home. Ana,Ray Reimer I had ask the nurses if it was OK to give Abe a little ice cream at least on his mouth to taste for his birthday and they agree. At 2:00pm AnaReimer (Abe's sister) visited him.  The nurses brought ice cream and Ana fed him 10 teaspoon of ice cream which he enjoyed very much.Ana  and Hertha,Otto laugh with joy seeing how well he had open his mouth and ate the ice cream.,

Continuation of Abe's birthday

2)please pray for Abe to discover his voice more.
3)Generally over all a complete healing.
Thank you every one for your prayers and blessings.we appreciate it!

Abe's Birthday

It's Abe 42nd birthday today.Hertha and I went to sing happy birthday to him, and he lifted his left hand. We are very happy that the Dr gave us permission to take him in the beautiful garden behind the hospital later on. It has to be sunny tho. I believe it would do Abe very good to get some fresh air for a change.

We are so happy and excited for every little thing he has accomplish so far, they are the big thing for us.
It's my privilege to be here in Guatemala with Hertha.she is one of the strongest person I've ever known. She is courageous, filled with joy, and most of all her super natural faith in almighty God. I thank you all for praying for her. I've witness what the power of prayers can do in a time of uncertainty.
We would like a prayer request for Abe for the following :
1) For the right side of his body to be more flexible,so far it's only his left side that has a lot more movements than the right side.

Abe's update

Hi family and friends, as of 11:00 this morning Dr Matteo ordered the monitors from Abe to be removed. And that means good news.!
Abe has been coughing well. It is important for him to do so in order for him to be able to clear his throat.
The tube is still in his throat. Dr Matteo says Abe is ready to be transported back to Belize by air ambulance directly to a hospital,or we have an option of staying several days more in order for his tube to be remove, and then he will be able to go directly home.
Thanks for your prayers! We appreciate it!

Abe's recovery

Hello everyone, today is a new day. We are still waiting for Abe's doctors to give a full update on how he is progressing. This morning hertha and Otto went to visit him and he propped up his head several times with his left hand.
He had cough easily this morning with no signs of nervousness, and also brought out his first word and it sounded like (Bo) . Also the expensive feeding bag has been taken off.so he no longer consumes the nutrients that goes directly to his veins. He is only taking his supplements that goes direct to his stomach. Please continue to pray and keep believing with us for complete restoration."Jesus christ the same yesterday, and to day,and for ever"

Abe's Update

We have again seen much progress today with Abe in various ways.
Abe was being given 60 ml of nutrients into his stomach feed tube this morning and at 1:00 pm they increased it to 70 ml. As I said yesterday, this is the amount needed for him to become dependant on his stomach providing enough nutrients, so that the nutrients into his vein can be removed. Doctor expects this to happen tomorrow, but he first want to do blood test. He also said today evening his entire digestive system is functioning all the way thru. Thank you Jesus!

As of yesterday, Abe was at an 11 on the Glasgow coma scale. According to this, he is officially not in a coma anymore. Google the Glasgow coma scale for details. 3 to 8 is considered to be in a coma. Abe is rated at the top score for motor skills, as he obeys commands.

At 11:40 am, Abe started breathing again thru his nose and mouth for the first time, since his accident. They capped the inserted pipe entering his wind pipe, and after a few vigorous tries,he managed to pull air in thru his nose. Since breathing thru the pipe was much easier, it will take several days for his lungs to adjust. He has the pipe capped for 3 hours, then they remove it for 1 hour to give him a rest. Doctor says that if all goes well, they should be able to remove the pipe entirely in several days. He must first cough and swallow properly. Please pray for Abe to be at peace, as this is putting stress on him, as he clearly showed concern about this. He reached out his hand a number of times so we would hold it when he struggled with his breath. For this reason the doctor invited Hertha to stay with him all day. Doctor wants us to clearly communicate to Abe and keep talking about this to him as to why his breath is harder. Also, since his pipe is capped, he could talk if he wanted to. Doctor says Abe needs to discover his voice, and that we need to continually encourage him to make a sound. Once he discovers it, they will give voice therapy.

Abe's response to body therapy is great. As of some days ago, his both sides were responding similar, accept the left side was a bit more responsive. However, as of now, his left side is waking up much much faster than the right side. What I mean by this is that he is already building good resistance in his arm and leg, in that they are getting ready to walk. His right side has minor but some movement, but little resistance. Pray for his right side to "wake up".

Thursday 6 December 2012

Abe is constantly improving. 3 days ago when they started giving Abe supplements, he was only absorbing 30 ml of supplements per hour. Yesterday he was able to absorb 40 ml per hour and today he was at 50 ml. He needs to be at 60 to 70, in order to be receiving enough nutrients, so they can stop giving him the expensive nutrients directly into his veins. Doctor expect this to be tomorrow or Saturday.
Abe is doing more movements. All his movements are in slow motion. Today he lifted his hand up high to grasp Otto's hand upon his request. While Hertha was holding his hand, I was praying and making declarations, he reached over with his hand to grasp my arm.
Abe seems to try to communicate with his body. His lips move slightly, but there is no sound whatsoever. He started to point with his index finger, and do various motion with his fingers and hand. He only does this with left hand. At one time he pointed his finger into his ear, as if to scratch or possibly show us something. He also lifted his arm, opened his hand as if to reach over and touch Hertha's cheek. When we talked to him about going home he got more active and lifted his head and shoulder and moved his legs.
Please continue to pray for a full recovery of his brain injury, and that he will quickly become aware of things so that tubes can be removed. Doctors are mentioning that he may move out of ICU soon.

Abe's update
Abe is showing constant progress in his recovery from his brain and back injury. We are very happy Ben Barkman came for the day, and has helped us with much insight into getting an in-depth knowledge of how Abe was hurt and what the recovery process may look like. However we plan and prepare to walk this out, we are always open for, and expecting a full recovery miracle to happen.

Hertha is an amazing wife to Abe, having an endless optimism, that no doubt adds greatly to the speed of Abe's recovery. She faithfully makes full use of every visiting opportunity. She tirelessly speaks joy and life to him, encouraging him in thousands of ways. Abe has constant worship music going non stop, and with the amazing team of nurses and doctors, the ICU room seems to have a continual presence of God and optimism.

We have had a good in-depth discussion on 2 occasions with doctor Mateo, and doctor Antonio, who will be in care of Abe after today for a while, as doctor Mateo will be out for several days. Following are notes from our discussions with the doctors.

Abe's primary injuries happened to his head, back and right shoulder.

Head,
Abe's brain was hurt by the sever impact and lack of oxygen. An MRI was done on Sunday, which revealed the blood clot was still present, but was receding satisfactorily, and is posing no immediate concern. There were no dark spots found. Doctor showed us details from the MRI, to demonstrate no dark spots. Hallelujah!
Doctor is happy he had decided not to do surgery on Abe's arrival, as it would have added extra stress and complications. The clot was in front which did not pose the immediate threat. If the clot had been a little further back, he would have done surgery immediately.

Back,
Doctor carefully showed us full MRI details of before and after the surgery. We clearly saw how the broken vertebrae was compressing the spinal cord. The after pictures revealed the inserted screws and support brackets, fusing the L1 with T2 and L2, and the now unobstructed spinal cord. Doctor is expecting no paralysis, as was the danger.

Shoulder,
Abe's shoulder was hurt, and at first it was expected that ligaments were torn and some dislocation of bones. However new reports from the MRI reveal only stretched ligament. It is not expected that surgery will be needed on his shoulder.

Abe's stomach and intestines had slowed down as part of the brain trauma. Last week when he was given supplements, he vomited it out. The stomach drain has receded much in the last few days, indicating that he is getting ready to receive supplements. Yesterday morning they gave it another try, and he is taking it well this time, and has not vomited. They feed him regular food like fruit juice and jello thru the tube into his stomach 3 to 4 times a day. The nutrition specialist is happy how Abe's system now takes food, and he says there is no bloating and apparent complications. To "wake up" the intestines is a process, that takes time. As soon as he is ready to eat with his mouth, the air tube will be removed. For the time being he needs the air tube to avoid infections. He will be unable to talk until it is removed.
As soon as Abe's intestines are stable, he can move out of ICU. They expect this to take another 4 to 8 days, after which he will be ready to come home to Belize.

Abe's brain recovery process status is unknown at this time, and only time will tell what it will be like. The doctors cannot know nor test the extent of the damage. However, progress is seen every day, at a fairly decent rate considering the injury he suffered. Doctor Mateo is optimistic with the way he responds to various things and the way he focuses with his eyes and moves his limbs.

Abe sleeps the majority of the time. In the morning it takes strenuous coaxing to wake him up. Later in the day, he is awake more, and responds quicker and more. Abe moves all limbs. He carefully scratches his nose, rubs his eyes, and strokes his lower lip. Therapy is done twice a day. Hertha is being taught to do this, as well as feeding thru the tube, to prepare for going home. Abe focuses on a person and make short expressions. He moves his lips, as if he is wanting to speak. He swallows his saliva well.

Continue with us to declare life and joy over Abe and Hertha.

Tuesday 4 December 2012

Hi family and friends!
We Jacob and Lilly, along with Otto and Elda are very excited to be here with Abe and Hertha now, to see the progress that's happening. It definitely looked like he got excited about seeing Jacob. He looked and looked at him for a long time, trying to talk with moving his lips. Abe constantly puts his hand up to rub his right eye, and his lower lips. When he yawns saliva may drip and he wipes it with his hand. Generally he will swallow when needed.
Dr. Matteo came in and said he was very happy with Abe's progress today. They started to feed him supplements today, and he's doing great! His intestines are starting to work. No throwing up at all. He says if he'll keep doing fine with this he'll soon teach Hertha (family), how to tube feed him and we can go home to Belize with Abe. Hertha asks you though, to keep believing for a miracle of not needing any tubes to go home.
Dr says, they did catscan yesterday and the test looks beautiful, better than expected. He says there's no dark spots on his brain. Abe shows strong emotions, if Dr. pinches him. Dr. says he definitely hears us talking. The blood clot is nicely disappearing.
By looking at the eyes/pupils, the Dr. measures Abe's brain awareness. Abe is currently at 2. A healthy normal person is at 1. The first three days after the accident, Abe was at 4 which is the worst stage, or no response/unconscious stage.
Looking forward to another great day, where we expect to see Gods goodness!

Here I am to report back to you all on the good things that are taking place out here. A few days ago Abe wanted to help me with my tablet when I tried to take a picture with it and it didn't work right away. I was sitting right beside him while trying to make it work when He brought his hand close to the tablet. The liquid that comes out of his stomach has a normal color now also it is a lot les

s from a few days ago when it was 1500cc to today 300cc. Soon you will hear that he is getting his supplements I expect. Last night he had tried to take off his tube in his throat so now his hand is tied down. He was lifting up one of his knees today . And plus I got A few kisses from him of course he got some from me too. Ha ha. This is indeed a God day.

Hertha

Sunday 2 December 2012

This is an update that you all would have liked to receive yesterday but because I was quite busy getting ready to go home it did not get done before, now. Stanley and Tina and Hertha had a chat with Doctor Matteo yesterday at 6:30. Later during our 7:30 visit with Abe, a specialist for shoulder injuries, Dr. Aldana, came in to explain Abe’s shoulder injury.  He said it is not necessary to do a surgery on the arm, only some therapy. Abe has been improving a lot since Friday. It was a thrill to see him wake up more. He has greeted Mom and Dad and Stanley and Tina and the doctor with a smile. His eyes are open more than half of the time we were in his room. He wrinkles his forehead to open his eyes really wide, rubs his eyes and scratches his nose, turns his head a lot , to change position and  toward noises. Hertha was sitting close to him trying to make her tablet take a picture of him and he made an effort to reach toward the tablet.

The main concern at this point is that his brain, stomach and intestines are slow in functioning together. Yet , he says that his brain waking up more the way it is doing now will speed up this function as well. Let us pray urgently for this area to function well. This is the only thing that stands in the way of his moving out of the ICU and start giving him supplements again.

Other than that the news is very encouraging. The doctor talked of doing a catscan on Friday, which has not happened possibly because the doctor was kind of busy, and an EEG early this week. Doctor Matteo says the EEG is  now a waste of money because the visible progress Abe is making is a far better test than the EEG would be. He says Abe is doing very good and he especially mentioned  the facial expressions Abe is making are a very good sign. The catscan sounds like the doctor will do early in the week.

There is so much to praise God for but we also need to pray for more healing.

                                                                                                                               Betty

Saturday 1 December 2012

God is working His healing in Abe’s body. It was very hard to leave him tonight. He had his eyes open the whole time and seemed uncomfortable. We tried to guess what was bothering him but could’nt quite figure it out. We read Psalm 91 to him and prayed with him and he became peaceful, focusing   and listening  intently on the reading and he became peaceful again. When we left his room he followed Hertha’s every move it looked as if he did not want her to leave.

                                     Betty

I need to mention a few more exciting things Abe did today. As we have said before, we are praising  the Lord for every sign of improvement.

After lunch he scratched his nose and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes with his left hand. His eyes are open  a lot of times. One time when he had his eyes open and Mom and Dad were in there, he looked at them and smiled. God is good. He is in control and we stand amazed. The catscan they talked of doing has not happened yet. Next week probably. They have not started his supplements either as yet. We hope to speak to the doctor yet today.

                                                                                                                                                  Betty

Because he loves me,” says the Lord,” I will rescue him; I will protect him for he acknowledges my name. Psalm 91:14

The Bible is full of promises for God’s  children. Last night we read this verse to Abe and I thought of what Doctor Matheau said to Abe a couple hours before, that Abe is a man who loves God but God loves him even more. So true. When we visited Abe this morning he was sleepy but later in the morning he responds again pretty much the same as yesterday. It is so good to see him getting better. Thank you so much for praying just keep on praying for his full recovery.  We were surprised this morning to find visitors waiting at the hospital for us, Abe and Elizabeth Klassen. Thank you so much for coming. We are expecting Stanley and Tina to arrive in a few hours. Tomorrow morning I leave for home. So you will have to bear with us and see how the updates will come through in the coming days.

PRAISE HIS NAME!!!

Abe is improving improving improving. Wow. How do we spell the word wow backwards? Wow !! Since the 2 time that we visited Abe today he has had his eyes opened almost half of the time when we are with him. One time it looked like he wanted to add to our conversation. Sometimes he seems to be turning his head towards the person that is talking. When he is looking straight into my eyes with his eyes as big as possible I hardly know what to do next. THANK YOU JESUS !!

God is so good. Abe is improving and since today during our 11:00 o clock visit it is not so slowly anymore. He opens his eyes without us coaxing him and he has his eyes open almost half of the time and really open, too, not just partly. He seems to really listen to our conversations and turns his head toward the one speaking. Once it looked like he wanted  to speak, too. We are so excited and PRAISE THE LORD.

                                                                                      Betty

Some of our visitors are gone. Frank and Dora and the children left this morning at 6:20 and Walter took the bus yesterday at 10:30. Mom and Dad are still here and myself ( Betty), with Hertha.  Hertha really enjoyed having her children here. It was sweet to see how they enjoyed  visiting their                                                                                                                      dad. We pray for safe travelling for them.

Hertha and I saw Abe this morning. He opened his eyes 5 times during our 1 hour visit in his room. Doctor Mattheo came in briefly, he had to go do a surgery. He brings so much encouragement when he enters a room. We asked him about fixing Abe’s shoulder and he gave a few reasons why there is no rush to do that

-          He has a sore ( about half an inch in diameter, we think it is from the accident) right on the place where they would make the incision  which he says would not be good to irritate that before it is healed.

-          Every surgery he has, sets back on the progress his brain is making and could cause more complications, which we don’t need right now.

-          The surgery is minor and can be done closer to the time when he goes home or even come back later to do it.

Please pray that his body will receive the supplements they want to give him and his digestive system will do its work.

Thank you so much for your unceasing intercession and encouragement.

                                                                                                                Betty

Hi, Friends and family, all those of you that pray and intercede for Abe and family. We are posting these updates for you to be informed on  how you can pray and so you can praise the Lord with us for His goodness. We thank you for not using this as a means to spread news that is imagined or read between the lines.  Thank you for praying  and supporting .

Abe is responding  and moving  more since yesterday toward evening. Just looks more alert. Lifting his head, moving his arm toward his upper body, squeezing hands that are holding his, opening his eyes, turning his head. Then the next time we visit him he sleeps mostly again. But in general he is showing more movement. The doctor says he needs our reports on his responses to know how he is improving.

Doc says tomorrow he wants to start feeding him supplements again into his stomach. Please pray that he will accept them this time. If he does he can be moved into a general room.

We have lots of company now, Abe and Hertha’s children and Hertha’s parents from Calgary and Frank and Dora Loewen. It is good  we are enjoying them. We say again, God is good. We are taught  in God’s Word to present our requests to God with thanksgiving. It is good to praise Him.

Hi

Today we spent more time with other family members than with Abe.

Abe seems to be pretty good  today. The doctor was busy today so we have not seen him a lot.  We have seen some more response today. Once when I was in he squeezed Dania’s and Jenny’s hands. He yawned a couple times. He also turned his head a bit. He has also opened his eyes a couple times. They put him on a chair, which is very close like a bed, just his head a little higher.

So we praise God for a good day and we praise God for every response we see, even if it is a small.

Generally he seem to improve, yet slowly.

Walter

Yesterday Abe & Hertha’s children all came here and then later at night mom & dad came from Calgary.

Yesterday in the afternoon when we came into the room and I shook Abe’s legs a bit and called his name he opened his eyes for about half a minute. He also opened his eyes when the children came in. He was more responsive then he was now already for a couple days.

Family and friends,

We visited Abe this morning. We also spoke with the doctor for a while.

Yesterday Abe’s abdomen was bloated and he had fever which caused the doctors  concern. His digestive system is not working the way it should and the risk was there that one of his  intestine could burst and so they took precaution on that. A few catscans were done on his abdomen to take precaution. This morning he had a big bowel movement and the bloatedness is gone again. Praise the Lord he answers prayers, we prayed that Abe would  cause the nurses work to clean him up and they sure had to. Yet they are looking for  it to move on a continues basis. His abdomen problem is not helping his brain improve. The doctor said if a healthy person has problems in the stomach and abdomen as Abe has, he would be down in the bed as well.  The doctor said as long as he has issues like he had yesterday they say it is not an option to take him out of the ICU. They are not giving Abe any supplements into the stomach. But he said they give him different kind of nutrition in his IV which they also will look at closely how it will affect him. The doctor says that  at this point, as long as he does not experience setbacks he is doing good.

Walter asked the doctor about his brain and he says it is to soon to tell. As mention earlier, other complications slow that down as well. The doctor again said that Abe has been without oxygen for the first 10 min and that has affected his brain. He said his brain has  some activity, but it is disorganized. Brain trauma, Spinal trauma, and digestive problems are all connected.

They will do another catscan on the head on Friday. And then as he would think now an EEG which is a more complete test on his brain beginning of next week and that test should show results again on his brain activity.

This morning we saw more response. He moved his leg and arm and his eyelids fluttered more, too. He also turned his head  and lifted it a bit this morning. The therapist said he had opened his eyes yesterday when she gave him treatment. The catscans on his abdomen showed very good results on the surgery on his vertebrae.

Pray that Abe’s stomach will function right

Pray that his digestive system will work

Pray that his fever will go away completely.

Pray that his body will be completely healed and his brain to be restored.

The doctor encourages us to speak to Abe, encourage him boldly, which to me (Walter) seems Otto Reimers daughters are better at then I am.

We visited Abe from 4:00 to 5:00PM. The nurses were putting fluid in his abdomen for another test. We spoke with the doctor a few words and he said he had not seen any results from the first test, but told us he will look at them and they had to fill the abdomen with fluid to do another one. Later when we tried to visit him they were busy working with Abe so we have not been able to visit him again. Communication would be better if we would speak Spanish fluently. The nurses mostly speak Spanish and the doctors are not around all the time, but it seems to work.

Walter

Hi friends and family,

We are serving an awesome God. Our circumstances don’t change who God is, He will always be the same.

We visited Abe this morning and he was pretty much the same as yesterday. As we said yesterday they started to give Abe supplements. This morning he vomited a couple times. Even at 11:00AM Abe was still vomiting a couple times. At that time Hertha spoke with the doctor, the doctor said, Abe could be vomiting because he is unable to accept some medication. He was not to concerned about it.   They stopped giving him the supplements earlier this morning for the time being.. Now we just came out of the room again. The doctors wanted to do some test on him at this moment (catscan on the stomach), to check his digestive system. He does have some bowel movement in the form of some diarrhea. Abe has had a little fever almost all day.

We trust in the Lord even when it is a day that is not as bright as we would have liked to see it. Please continue to pray.

Walter

I don't have alot of time to be on my tablet but I am very grateful for your encouragement family and friends.I believe for good things to take place. Right now I ask for your prayers that Abe will be able to take his nutrition and not vomit when he is getting it which he did quite abit this morning. Right now a cat scan is taken on his belly to see why his stool is not moving as much as it shoul

d he has diaria but they want it to move better yet.So lets believe for break thru in Jesus Name. And I say it is time for him to wake up. We believe for a miracle. Tomorrow when our children come they would really like to see him totally awake. So I say Wake Up Abe you need to wake up. Good things will happen just watch it especially if we declare positive things.

Abe

We spoke with Doctor Matteo just before lunch. He is a very optimistic and humorous man. A few things he said

-          They were prepared with 6 units of blood for Abe’s surgery yesterday and had to use only 1. He said “God was there with us”.

-          The results of a blood test they did today to check his Thyroid, showed to low. They started giving him some medication for this. He says this is normal for patients that suffer head trauma. He expects that  correcting this will help his brain to wake up, too.

Other than that, Abe is very calm so far today. He opened his eyes for the doctor today but not for us.

  Thankyou for praying in faith.

                  Betty

It is Sunday morning and most of you are heading to church. For us here in Guatemala it is different .We will be having our worship service in our spirits because after all there is not a moment that we are not bathing in the Fathers love ,his presence and his grace. He is so good. He is working His miracle in Abe, we just have to see it with eyes of faith. This morning he is sleeping , probably from the sedation, yet. They started feeding him supplements into his stomach this morning. Pray that his stomach will receive them and his colon to work good. He has a slight fever again due to yesterday’s surgery. The doctor said this morning that as far as  yesterday’s surgery concerns, it is doing good.  Ben and Maria left this morning at 6:30 for their road trip home. Please pray for Abe to wake up and be healed. THANKYOU for your prayers.

The doctor said that it will help Abe to wake up better. After the surgery he all ready opened one eye and looked at me for awhile. Lets keep on believing and declaring total healing for his brain and his whole body. Thank you so much for your support, family and friends.

Goodmorning family and friends. Walter and I reached Guatemala at 7 this morning. We met Hertha and Ben and Maria. We went to see Abe and at 7:30 he was wheeled out for surgery, to fix his broken vertebrae. We had a powerful, wonderful prayer time together around his bed. Then Doctor Matteo came and he asked to have some time for prayer. It is so precious to pray together with the doctor for wisdom and guidance. We have peace that Abe is good hands, first of all in the Father hands and then also in good doctors hands. God is so good. We believe for healing. Please pray. The doctor says the surgery could take till 3 o clock. Yesterday Abe opened his eyes  a few times and looked around. We praise God for every sign of improvement.

PRAY! PRAY!

Today is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoce and be glad in it...
Today is Abe's surgery on his back, unless God fixed already. Please hold our brother is Christ high today as he is undergoing  his surgery which the doctor estimated to take from 6 to 8 hrs. He will go into surgery at 7:30 am, which is about now, Belize time and Guatemala time are the same. Hertha told me yesterday evening that Abe had opened his eyes a few times yesterday and yawned a few times again she was very excited to see this.
Pray that Abe will be ok through the surgery and that God will be the one doing the operation. I want to hear from the doctors that things had worked better then expected! I know Abe would do it for you so do if for him NOW. It's your chance to give back to him what he has given to you, time, wisdom, encouragement, and so much more!

This

Goodmorning my family and friends. Abe is slowly but surely lmproving. The swelling in his brain is down. Thank you Papa God . Keep believing that Abe will not have any more fever. REALLY declare and believe that Abe's vertebrates will be HEALED by tomorrow morning and his shoulder too. I want to see a MIRACLE taking place. Prayer meetings are very welcome. Where two or three are gathered in my name says Jesus I will hear them. Of course a total restoration of Abe's brain as well. This morning Ben and I were talking in Abe's room when Abe opened one eye fairly good for a while. We were talking about Johnny and Mishells little dude Denver when Abe opened his eye. Abe has that little mischeviaus smile on his face since yesterday and I keep telling him that he can't keep that secret for long.I thank you for all your prayers and support and the encouraging emails and responses.

Hertha

We visited with the doctor; we talked about his back surgery. The doctor said it is highly recommended because he can't be moved around like this, and the danger of the infection of the spinal cord. The brain swelling went down so they have stopped giving him brain medication. The concern is the spinal and the infection. He said to wake up is just the matter of being  de-trauma-tised.

First time he did yawning 2 times this morning, opening his mouth far.

We need 3 blood donors to do the surgery; blood type is B, negative or positive. We asked when he will come out of the intensive care room; the doctor said they feed him through the vein, but they start feeding him food. If he’ll need a nurse full time the doctor said it's cheaper in the intensive care room.

We talked with the doctor today and we are hoping that they can do surgery on his vertebrae on  Saturday- fever has to be gone for that. But most of all we want to see a miracle happen so that they won’t have to operate. This morning Abe partially opened his eyes and was peeking for a bit and then his eyes were fluttering for a while and he was yawning really big twice. The brain swelling is now gone. The doctor says concerning his waking up, it is just a matter of being de-traumatized.  Maria is doing brain therapy on him. Thank u all so much for believing with us for Abe’s recovery. KEEP ON BELIEVING AND PRAYING for him to wake up.

Hi There,

Waiting, waiting and waiting some more!!! haha but we are of good courage! Amen?
I just spoke with Dr. Matheau, Abe's neurologist, he said that the test results on his brain did not get done analyzing so the detailed results on that will hopefully be done tomorrow or the day after. The Doc had a very busy day so he could not give me much of a detail update. Abe has a fever due to the surgery done on his throat yesterday so this needs to be gone in order to do the back surgery which is scheduled for sat.
The doctor sends his greetings and blessings to all of Abe's family and friends and asks for prayer on his behalf for wisdom. He believes in Abe and all that God has planned for him.

Goodmorning, family and friends. The Lord has given us a new day again. We Praise the Lord for His goodness. Abe was sedated yesterday for the surgery so we have to wait again for the sedation to wear off which could take a few days. Yet, he is moving himself surprisingly much this morning in spite of the fact that he had surgery yesterday. I am very thankful that Dorothy Loewen ,a  well experienced chiropractor, and Maria Dueck, a very good therapist, are here and have worked on Abe. Maria says he shows good brain activity when she works on him. So we are looking positive into this day that God has given us. The swelling in his brain is still decreasing but not gone yet. Pray for him to wake up and be completely restored. We serve an awesome God. Hertha is on facebook now so you can check for updates there too. Look for Hertha Dueck and request to be her friend if you want get the updates that way too.

Abe is out of surgery  and is looking good. Here is a picture.

Abe is in surgery now. It will take two to three hours. They will put in a breathing device under the mouth into his throat and  a feeding tube into his stomach.  Pray for it to go well and keep on believing that he will wake up.

By Clara Plett

Hi everyone,

I hope to clear things up for you a little, i spoke with Abe's doctor at lunch time as well a Cornie.
So, Abe was taken of the sedation medication a few days ago and was expected to gain consciences and be well and alert but it seems that his brain suffered a lack of oxygen at the site of the accident the first few minutes that is why he is still in a "sleep". The doctor told me that it is to early to know how far or when Abe will "wake up".
An x-ray was done on his belly yesterday to see if there was any internal injury because of the problem that his intestine seem to not be working as expected. With this x-ray they discovered that he has a vertebrae in his back (L1) that is broken three times. The doc. will need to operate on his back in order for him to be able to get up and walk. He is able to move his both legs so this is a good thing. the doc will wait to do surgery till his fever is gone.
A brain test was done this morning showing good brain activity on both sides of the brain but the experts will anylise it this afternoon so the exact outcome of this test will be known tomorrow. Abe responds well to Hertha but he dose not respond to basic commands that the doc. gives him. The doc. said it is to early to be making assumptions about his brain condition. The surgery to relocate the tubes will be done this afternoon which is not a big procedure. i spoke to the doc. about moving Abe into a regular room in order to reduce the daily cost, he said it would come into concideraton once he relocated the feeding tube and the breathing tube. Ben and Maria, Ruth and Dorthy arrived safely in Guatemala yesterday evening. Dorthy has been able to massage Abe and do some chiropracting on his neck.
A verse that was in my heart and mind all day yesterday was, "If my people called by my name will humble themselves and pray, if they seek my face and turn form their sin i hear i will forgive and i will heal their
(Abe) land ".

So now we are back with a decision on the surgery. They will do surgery today or tomorrow morning to take out all the tubes from his mouth and nose and put in two tubes,  lower on his throat, one for feeding and the other for one for oxygen. This will be done to give his tongue more chance to heal  and so he can continue to breathe, in spite of the swelling in his tongue. The surgery on the vertebrae will be given a few days time , for the infection in the vertebrae to decrease. So please continue to pray and intercede and believe for complete healing for Abe. For his brain, his lungs, his shoulder, his vertebrae, his tongue, his breathing, just for complete restoration. We serve an awesome God and He is good. He gives peace in the midst of the storm. We praise him for that and for the healing He is giving and is going to give.

         Betty  on behalf of Hertha

Yesterday some x-rays were done on Abe and it revealed that his vertebrae is broken at 3 places in the middle of his back.So this morning a decision will be made if they will do surgery today or not.We are praying and believing for healing for this. Yesterday he was very calm, not responding a lot but this morning he is a lot more responsive again. We held his eyes open for him and his eyes were actually focusing on us.His tongue looks less swollen but the doctor has not been in to give his viewpoint on that.We praise the Lord for keeping him alive through this whole ordeal. He suffered a lack of oxygen for  the first 8 to 10 minutes after the accident. The doctor says his heart is strong. His life is a miracle. God is good. Thankyou for interceding with us.

Monday 19 November 2012

Here are a few pictures of Abe in Guatemala.

We just talked to the  doctor. He says Abe has not really improved since yesterday. Abe is healing ,but very slowly. He says that they see a variety of different ways people respond after experiencing head trauma. So we ask you to continue praying and interceding for Abe’s healing. We need to declare amazing things to happen in Abe’s body. Thank you very much for your faithfulness in praying and believing. THANK YOU ,FATHER,  FOR PEACE THAT YOU GIVE US.  One new concern we need to pray for is that his tongue is swollen. This could be due to the initial inserting of tubes right after the accident. The doctor says if that swelling does not go down they will need to do surgery to insert two tubes in a different place, for him to be able to keep on breathing. Thank you for praying. We need it .

Tonight our hearts are filled with thanksgiving to our wonderful Father. Abe is responding more. He tries opening his eyes. Today he also started squeezing  Hertha’s hand when she holds  his hand and he actually stroked her hand once as she was holding his. PRAISE  THE LORD. PRAISE THE LORD. He is good. Thank you for praying. The first days after the accident he did not move his injured shoulder but now he is moving that arm and shoulder more already. Clarence and Gladys left Guatemala Saturday morning. Cornie is still there and Ben and Maria are going tomorrow. God is good. Pamela, a niece to a friend they have made in Guatemala, has been a good companion to Hertha  the last few days. She speaks English. Hertha is in the ICU with Abe six times per day for an hour or more at a time. Every sign of progress is reason for rejoicing in the Lord.

Hi family and friends
We just had a good conversation with Abe's doctor. He said that from a
medical
viewpoint Abe is still improving. This morning's cat scan shows that his
brain
swelling is decreasing. He will not need an operation to ease swelling. Thy
also
decreased the aid of the respirator. He is now breathing 50% on his own. We
would
like to see more responses from Abe when we touch him or talk to him. He
does not
have proper bowel movements so the doctors will try to remedy that in the
next few
days. We pray that his severe trauma will not have a long term effect on
his life.
Thanks for praying for Abe and his family.

Prayer Request

It is now already 48 hrs since the doctors started the procedure of waking up Abe. He is still responding slightly, like moving his hand etc, like he did already on wednesday when the waking up proccess started. But he is not responding as fast as the doctors would have wanted him to.

Therefore we are asking for prayer in 3 Areas:

  1. Pray that the brain swelling would continue to go down. It has come down a lot already, but not enough yet.
  2. Pray that he will start breathing on his own. So far, he has made almost no effort to start breathing. He is almost totally dependent on the breathing machine as of yet.
  3. Pray that his stool will start moving. He has barely had any movement since the accident.

Thank you Jesus Abe is being healed!

Abe is waking up, but very slowly.

He still has brain swelling which slows down the nervous system.

So as of yet, the machines are helping him out.

Pray for the swelling to go down and for him to wake up real soon J

Thank you God for what you're doing!
